HUDSON TAYLOR The man who believed God by Marshall Broomhall

This book should be required reading for any and all future missionaries. Broomhall does the Christian world a great service by detailing Hudson Taylor's successes as well as his trials. The most remarkable feature of this book is the faith of Hudson Taylor. In the midst of incredible adversity this man abandoned himself to Jesus and the promises of Scripture. He rested solely on the provision of God, letting no man know his need. Throughout the book, Taylor's adversities and God's deliverances are a source of encouragement and inspiration that will lift the spirits of any true believer to "cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you." This book is an excellent read about a life well-lived and a spiritual journey of great depth.

THE MEEK INHERIT 123
had been so exercised that he felt compelled to give £500, .
which sum he there and then handed to Mr. Taylor.
The same morning Hudson Taylor had received the
offer of the whole of the accommodation of the Lammermuir.
The ship was found suitable, Colonel Puget's
cheque was paid down on account, the simultaneous
offer of this vessel's accommodation and this munificent ,
gift being accepted as God's ratification of this great
venture of faith.
It is interesting to note, at this time, the appearance
of a new watchword. The two mottoes Jehovah-Jireh and
these was added a third, Jehovah-Nissi, "The Lord my
Banner". It is first seen on the cover of Occasional
Papers, and well suits the thought of a forward movement,
of an aggressive adventure with the Lord Himself
as Captain of the host. It serves, too, to show how
God was in all his thoughts; it was God who had delivered,
it was God who would provide, and it was God
who must direct every step of the way.
The secret of Hudson Taylor's strength was God. As
the Russians are said to have a standard word for "The
Godseeker", so we seem to need a word to indicate the
God-conscious devotee, the man who is always aware of
God, who lives as seeing Him Who is invisible. This was
Hudson Taylor's attitude. With the Psalmist he could
say:
"I have set the Lord always before me,
Because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved."
This was the key of his life. Thk was the potent
truth which made him what he ~as. All his guiding
principles he culled from God's Word. He dared to put
Christ's precepts into practice. He dared to "resist not
