Tim MarshallVillage CareAs far as Village care clients are concerned, wehave just one requiring active support, who istaken to and from Wycombe Hospital twice aweek for treatment. Both driver and patientwear masks. Other clients know that we are“open” during our normal telephone hours andwill endeavour to help in whatever way possiblealthough with many of our volunteer driversover 70, we have had to suspend the usual liftservice. Telephonists, freed from their normalduties of answering the phone and findingdrivers to take clients to various places (medicalappointments, dentists, hairdressers, shoppingetc) are phoning round clients in order to checkthat they are managing and to have a chat. Bothclients and telephonists have enjoyed getting toknow each other a bit better.Five Village Care volunteer drivers aresupporting our Penn Pharmacy by taking themedication to the homes of those who are selfisolating. Each weekday, the duty driver picksup prescriptions and drives them round to therelevant person. Arrangements for this homedelivery service are made via Penn Pharmacy(Lansdales). Highfield Surgery clients shouldwww.pennandtylersgreen.org.ukVillage Voice June/July 2020ask their doctor to send their prescription toLansdales in Penn.We have postponed the Village Care OpenGardens afternoon until Sunday 13th Septemberfrom 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Meanwhile, RuthPowell has set up a Facebook page to which allgardeners, not just Open Gardeners, are invitedto post pictures of their lovely gardens/flowersfor us all to enjoy. This can be found at www.facebook.com/PandTGOpenGardens Paul BreezePenn Pond Waders Golf SocietyOur government has announced that golfcourses can reopen subject to the 2-metre socialdistancing rules. Whilst this is very welcomenews, play is restricted to a 2-ball.We were deeply saddened to learn of thedeath of Frank Holder in Spain back in March.Frank was one of our founder members and ahugely popular figure within our Society. ManyPenn residents will remember Frank fondly. Healways had the ability to make everyone laugharound him. He will be greatly missed. We sendour sympathies to Lesley and his daughters.Against such an uncertain background, itremains hard to plan any of our 2020 eventswith any degree of confidence. We shall have towait and see whether golf clubs will allowsocieties back onto their courses over thecoming months. As things currently stand, ournext events will be at Berkhamsted GC on 5thJune 2020 and at Henley GC on Friday 10thJuly. Please see our website for any changes toour 2020 event schedule .Our May tour to Northern Portugal has had tobe postponed until November.
