► Denying specific devices (Phone.com only)<br />

When a device attempts to connect to the Access server or to use an<br />

application such as calendar, mail, or the address book, the server checks the<br />

Deny Device list. If the Device ID is in the list, it is denied access to the server<br />

and the user will keep getting a login prompt. If the user is already logged in<br />

when the deny list is edited, they won't be denied access until the current<br />

session times out or otherwise ends.<br />

Note: This feature is important if there are devices that are no longer used<br />

by the organization, but that are still in service.<br />

12.7 Sametime Everyplace<br />

Sametime Everyplace (STEP) extends the capabilities of Sametime to<br />

WAP-enabled devices such as mobile phones. It allows mobile users to chat with<br />

other Sametime users from their mobile phone, whether they are using mobile<br />

devices or Sametime Connect from their desktop.<br />

The following components are necessary to use Sametime Everyplace:<br />

► A wireless device that supports WAP 1.1<br />

► A Web browser with Internet access, such as Notes; Netscape 4.5 or greater<br />

(except 4.7); or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 or greater<br />

Note: Netscape 4.7 and Netscape 6.0 are not supported at this time.<br />

► Access to a commercial wireless data service<br />

STEP works with any mobile device using a WAP 1.1 browser. The device is<br />

connected to the Web via a service provider. Users set a bookmark on that<br />

device pointing to the STEP server.<br />

STEP authentication<br />

Once the STEP server is contacted, it authenticates the user by making a call to<br />

Sametime. STEP calls the Sametime server to authenticate users. The<br />

Sametime server contains two databases, a Secrets database (STAUTHS.NSF)<br />

and a Tokens database (STAUTHT.NSF) that are used to authenticate STEP<br />

and Sametime users.<br />

STEP must have access to the organization's address book to look up Sametime<br />

users. STEP must be able to route e-mail to and from the organization's address<br />

book properly.
