13.4 Stage 3: Creation of a corporate directory<br />

<strong>Redbooks</strong>Co starts to understand that they currently have two user directories, a<br />

Domino directory used to support this new collaborative environment, and a<br />

second legacy directory they use for older internal applications. The IT manager<br />

decides it would be best to only support authentication against one directory, to<br />

reduce administrative overhead and possible security holes. The IT manager<br />

recognizes that employees use the original legacy directory more often<br />

throughout the day, and are used to maintaining their passwords in this directory,<br />

which has more advanced password management features than those supplied<br />

via the Domino Directory currently used for the new collaborative environment.<br />

Fortunately, this legacy directory can be LDAP-enabled to allow other<br />

environments to use the directory for authentication and directory lookups.<br />

Based on this, a move to this legacy directory as the single corporate directory is<br />

relatively easy for <strong>Redbooks</strong>Co to implement. The “directory assistance”<br />

capabilities of the Lotus collaborative products are used to point the<br />
