Our Strategies
We intend to consolidate our current market position by
capitalising on opportunities in the global marine and
offshore industry and to enhance our competitiveness.
Key elements of our business strategy include:
Diversify sources of income by expanding ship chartering
• Expanding ship chartering business that we expect will provide
us with a long-term stable source of income.
• Building nine vessels to be completed by 2009 for our own
charter fleet.
• Building 10 vessels, to be completed by 2010, for sale to
strategic partners.
• Reallocate our resources and capacity to increase our
ship repair and conversion business in the event of a
slowdown in the shipbuilding business.
Upgrading technology and processes
• Continuously upgrade technical capabilities in order
to strengthen overall competitiveness, shorten the
vessel delivery period and minimise project costs.
• Invest further in advanced equipment and
technology to enhance processes and improve
efficiency and productivity through better project
management control.
Increasing capacity
• Progressively increase shipyard capacity to take
on more and larger projects and to carry out the
projects already recorded in our expanding order
book.
• Expand the usable waterfront of Batam shipyard from
450 metres to approximately 800 metres and extend
our Syncrolift® berthside by 32 metres x 245 metres,
among other upgrades to our Batam shipyard facilities
by end FY2009.
• Pending relevant approvals and our evalution of
commercial viability of building a shipyard in China, we
may build a shipyard in China.
Strengthening engineering and middle-level management teams
• Recruiting, developing and retaining talent through aggressive
recruiting policy, training programmes and mentoring schemes,
as well as competitive compensation packages and career
opportunities.
Enhancing competitive cost structure through selective outsourcing
• Increase capacity and maintain competitive cost structure by outsourcing
certain shipbuilding work to regional shipyards.
• Deploy our personnel to monitor the construction to ensure adherence to
stringent quality controls and procedures.
• Allows our Batam shipyard to focus on more complex and sophisticated vessels.
