Program Objectives: Chipola <strong>College</strong> is well known throughout the Southeast for its excellent<br />
arts education and programming. Serving more than 6,500 patrons yearly, Chipola Theatre has<br />
a tradition of superior ratings by the FCSAA. Chipola <strong>College</strong> offers the first two years of<br />
curriculum leading to an AA degree in Theatre Performance or Theatre Technical Production or<br />
an AS degree in Theatre and Entertainment Technology.<br />
History: Chipola <strong>College</strong> is celebrating 75 years of Changing Lives and Creating Futures this<br />
year. Located in the Florida Panhandle, Chipola has been known for high academic standards,<br />
a beautiful campus, and a friendly atmosphere. Chipola has a rich tradition of strong academic<br />
and workforce programs with an outstanding faculty committed to developing each student's full<br />
potential for success. In addition to academic excellence, the college also supports a wide<br />
range of academic and extracurricular activities. Chipola has established a center of excellence<br />
in the Fine and Performing Arts with star-quality theatre productions, instrumental music, Show<br />
Choir, Chorus, and visual arts presentations.<br />
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: The Dr. Gene Prough Center for the Arts is one of<br />
Florida's finest performing, visual and educational centers. This teaching facility consists of a<br />
655-seat state-of-the-art proscenium main theater for performing arts; a 150-seat flexible<br />
experimental theater used as a theatre classroom offers a venue for intimate works,<br />
cutting-edge programs and recitals; an art gallery in which to show works by Chipola students<br />
and faculty, as well as local, national and internationally-recognized artists; plus a dance studio,<br />
teaching areas, costume and scenery shops and offices. The Center is designed to serve the<br />
current and future needs of the Chipola <strong>College</strong> community, local cultural organizations and<br />
those living, working and visiting the Chipola region. The Center opened during the fall of 2012.<br />
