functioning in the professional arena, and who are dedicated to the practice of art to serve the
cause of human dignity and to effect positive change in their communities.
History: Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) began as the Chicago Academy of Music
in 1867, credited as the 4th music conservatory in America. Today, CCPA houses separate
conservatories in music and theater. Our faculty consists of world-class performers from opera
stars, established conductors and musicians, Broadway sensations to Grammy award-winning
jazz artists. The Theatre Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts consists of
nearly 200 students, divided between our Acting and Musical Theatre programs. Students are
guaranteed onstage performance credit every semester that they are at CCPA.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: CCPA’s spaces and classrooms are located here in the
Auditorium Building designed by the famed Adler and Sullivan. Roosevelt’s dormitories, dining
center, fitness center, student service offices, and most non-CCPA classrooms are all located
within the adjacent skyscraper called the Wabash Building. The Building is 469 feet tall, making
it the 6th tallest university building in the world and the 2nd tallest in the country!
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: All applicants applying to the Chicago College of
Performing Arts are automatically considered for a CCPA scholarship.
