Program Objectives: This program offers training in both classic and contemporary<br />

methodologies. We combine “on-your-feet” workshop style studio training with performance<br />

opportunities in both large-scale mainstage productions and intimate laboratory theatre settings.<br />

History: Barry University has been part of the community for over seven decades; working<br />

closely with students to foster an inclusive and diverse environment. Our students can pursue<br />

major or minor degrees in either acting, dance, or technical theatre. Training is balanced<br />

between studio classes in acting, voice/movement, improv, directing, theatre history, and<br />

hands-on opportunities in stagecraft and production design. Students may enroll in special topic<br />

courses in devised, immersive and other non-traditional approaches to theatre.<br />

Barry’s program is unique in that it offers students the flexibility to develop individual talents and<br />

interests. Students have the ability to design mainstage productions, direct student productions<br />

and produce original work alongside industry professionals in our studio theatre space.<br />

Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center has seating for<br />

900. The Pelican Theater- Intimate space with seating for 50. Quad Amphitheater- Permanent<br />

thrust stage located in the Fine Arts Quadrangle. Fine Arts Studio 149- Rehearsal/performance<br />

space with flexible seating for 25-75. Fine Arts Studio- Rehearsal/performance space with<br />

flexible seating for 20-50. Gato Art Gallery- Visual art/performance space with flexible seating<br />

for 25-100.<br />

Scholarships and/or Assistantships: Barry University offers institutional scholarships that you<br />

can apply for every year. Students are also eligible for $15/hour student work study positions in<br />

the Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center.<br />
