Program Objectives: You have the opportunity to prepare for professional careers in theatre<br />
and related entertainment fields, fulfill degree requirements for the Associate of Arts (A.A.)<br />
degree with focus in performing art, complete lower-level courses and requirements to transfer<br />
to a four-year theatre program, including through DirectConnect to UCF Perform onstage and<br />
work backstage at our state-of-the-art theatre facility.<br />
History: Theatre arts at Daytona State welcomes you with a friendly atmosphere, close contact<br />
with faculty and staff and small classes with individual attention. You can jump right into a<br />
number of annual mainstage productions, class showcases and a student improv club! DSC<br />
also offers a variety of courses in vocal and dance performance.<br />
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: The program is housed at the college’s News-Journal<br />
Center. The multi-level, multi-theatre facility features two state-of-the-art performance spaces.<br />
Other amenities include dance studio rehearsal space with sprung wooden floors and mirrored<br />
walls, large dressing rooms and green rooms, four concession areas, and traditional classroom<br />
spaces.A proscenium-style venue that is intimate, yet grand in style. It features seating for 859<br />
guests, an orchestra pit, fly tower, digital sound boards, computerized lighting and dimming, and<br />
excellent sight lines from every seat.This 264-seat venue offers a thrust-proscenium hybrid-style<br />
design, with the stage amidst the audience. The theater boasts a trap floor and wire tension grid<br />
that allows for greater lighting flexibility.<br />
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: Scholarships ranging from $300 to FULL tuition<br />
available. Theatre work-study positions available.<br />
