Department Contact: Emma Davis, edavis@msmnyc.edu
Academic Year: September to May
Degrees Offered: Bachelor of Music
Program Objectives: A real-world musical theatre training experience that only New York City
can provide, taught by Broadway performers and creators.
History: Manhattan School of Music’s prestigious Musical Theatre Program is the only
stand-alone conservatory program in New York City. Our program attracts professional
artist-teacher faculty and guest artists, many of whom have created and performed in some of
Broadway’s greatest shows such as Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime,
Chicago, and countless others. Students receive comprehensive training in musical theatre
culminating in a fully-accredited Bachelor’s degree.
MSM Musical Theatre students have many yearly performance opportunities. All MSM
productions are directed, choreographed and designed by professional, working theatre artists.
In addition we offer professional musical theatre writers the opportunity to workshop material
with our students and we encourage students to produce independent performance projects.
Facilities, Classrooms, and Theatres: We have 8 performance spaces ranging from a
650-seat theatre to smaller spaces like a black box or more mid-sized recital spaces. We also
have a dance studio where many MT classes are held. All classrooms and learning spaces are
on campus. Our school has 140 practice rooms for students to use -- some are even accessible
24 hours a day!
Scholarships and/or Assistantships: We consider all students for scholarship and award
scholarship based on two main factors; merit and demonstrated financial need. Merit is
determined by the audition scores and financial need is determined by the CSS Profile, the
FAFSA, and the MSM Financial Aid Questionnaire form.
