Spring Cleaning for a
Cause
By: Sandi Davis / Fashion “Cents”
April showers bring May flowers. And the
opportunity for spring cleaning. Again, I
am purging my closet, but this time for a specific charity.
When I first moved to Las Vegas, I had no sequins. Nada – zippo.
Okay, I just remembered my Elvis T-Shirt – and it’s one of my simple
treasures. But more on simple treasures next month.
While living here, and going to so many events and places, I acquired
a wardrobe of sequined shoes and purses and tops and dresses and my
favorite - jackets! And more on jackets another time.
I spent two weeks going through my sparkle closet – a separate closet
that contains everything dressy and formal, dresses long and short,
skirts, tops jackets, and shoes.
About the Eyebrows
By: Linda Bateman-Gomez / Timeless Beauty
There were so many things I didn’t
appreciate when I was young. My eyebrows
have now been added to that list. I just took them
for granted, like so many things
My eyebrows were always too thick, too dark and just did what they
were supposed to, framed my eyes. Now, they have needs.
At age 66, my eyebrows have thinned, grayed some, have wayward
strays, bald areas and dry patches. It’s time to take care of them.
My daughter recommended Revitabrow to help with the bald areas.
It is a serum/conditioner, sold by the company: Revitalash.com
It was expensive, $58.00 for a 2 month supply. So I bought the small
tube to try. My goal was hoping for new hair growth where it was
missing.
Using it was easy. After washing and drying the area, apply the serum,
let dry and fill in with eyebrow shadow.
After about 2 months, the bald areas started to fill back in. Honestly
I don’t know if it was the serum or because the thyroid meds I started
after the bout with cancer have started to work.
The only negative I noticed was my brow area was extra dry, requiring
a light exfoliation with a soft toothbrush. I also started using my under
eye cream on my brows at bedtime to help combat the dryness.
What will I wear again (or ever), what looks good on me and still
fits? Is it too big, too long, too tight?
Or what is too like another piece of clothing and if so which one to
keep? When the dust settled, I had 14 dresses of various lengths and
styles and colors. Dressy and cocktail to formal.
My realtor told me about an opportunity for giving called “Project
150.” Their mission statement is: “Project 150 strives to provide the
basic needs to the valley’s homeless, displaced and disadvantaged
high school students in the on-going struggle to make sure these kids
get their diploma and have a better chance at succeeding in life.”
But how do my dressy dresses and shoes help? By supplying these
deserving students with everything they need for their prom event! Now
that’s only my donation; they also accept donations for the boys as well.
And its focus is not only for prom, but they also collect high school
appropriate new and gently used clothes, shoes, toiletries, nonperishable
food, and school supplies year-round.
It thrilled me to help in this way instead of putting my clothes into a
consignment store. Project 150 Brady Caipa Volunteer Center, 3600 N
I won’t buy a new tube unless I see the bald areas thinning again,
since those spots are better now.
Whoever would have guessed after years of doing nothing for my
eyebrows, they now need so many tools? Tweezers, small scissors, felt
eyeliner for grays, eyebrow brush, eyebrow shadow, exfoliation brush,
serum and moisturizer.
With age comes lots of changes and our health often affects how we
look. Staying healthy, eating right, and getting our check-ups is the
most important thing we can do.
Keeping up with little physical changes, even things like our eyebrows
can help us feel better even though it’s just cosmetic. When you feel
good, you smile more and a happy face is always more attractive than
all the make-up in the world can achieve.
