The Sacrament of Baptism
Directions: Follow along as your teacher reads aloud about the
Sacrament of Baptism.

All living things need water to live. Without
water, they will die.
Water is also important to our spiritual life. When
we are baptized, the priest pours water on our head.
He says, “I baptize you in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
The Sacrament of Baptism washes away our sins, including
Original Sin. Sin hurts or destroys our friendship with God.
Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead to save us
from sin. We receive this salvation when we are baptized. We
need to be baptized to be saved from sin.
Baptism gives us new life. It places the
Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Baptism
makes us members of the Church
and children of God. Baptism also
gives us a permanent mark, or seal,
on our soul. This mark means that
we belong to God forever.
