Mary’s message was simple: she wanted people to pray
for sinners and stop sinning. One day, the lady asked
Bernadette to dig in the muddy ground and to eat some
herbs. She did what the lady had asked, and a spring of
water began to form in the area. Soon, sick people came
and drank from the spring, and many of them were
healed!

Then the lady, who was Mary, said “I am the
Immaculate Conception.” This title means that Mary
was always without sin, even in her mother’s womb.
She did not carry the sin of Adam and Eve. Even though
this happened a long time ago, the spring is
still there today. Many people have
experienced miracles of healing
there. St. Bernadette said
that it was not the water
that healed them
but the great faith
in Jesus that the
people brought
with them there.
