3 To begin something new: The sacrifice was a
symbol of a new covenant being made.

4 To show sorrow for sins: This was the most
common reason for sacrifice. The price for sin is
death. It is a price too much for anyone to pay. The
animal was sacrificed to pay part of the price. An
animal sacrifice is not enough, however, to pay the
full price for sin.
We do not offer animal sacrifices today. But, we still
praise God. We still give Him thanks. We still celebrate
new beginnings. We still show sorrow for our sin.
And we still use symbols and traditions during these
important moments.
