In the Old Testament:
• we learn about the Old Covenant, how God made
Himself known to us before the birth of Jesus;
• God revealed Himself to the Chosen People;
• God prepared us for the coming of His Son, Jesus
Christ and the gift of salvation;
• we see signs and symbols pointing to Jesus’ coming.

• we meet in the Gospels the Word of God Himself,
Jesus Christ;
• we learn about the beginning of the Church, guided
by the Holy Spirit.
The four Gospels are especially important because:
• they tell us about the New Covenant in Jesus
Christ;
• they tell us about Jesus’ life, Passion, Death, and
Resurrection.
Both the Old and New Testaments are important to our
Catholic Faith. Both tell us about God’s love for us. That
is why we hear the Old and New Testaments read at
every Mass.
