the Eucharist

Jesus changed bread and wine
into His Body and Blood at
the Last Supper. He told His
Apostles to celebrate the
Eucharist as a memorial of
His sacrifice. The Apostles did as
He said. The bishops and priests after
the Apostles have continued to do so for almost 2,000 years.
Every Mass today is like the Last Supper. Jesus works
through the priest to change bread and wine into His Body
and Blood in the Eucharist. The bread and wine are no
longer bread and wine. They truly become the Body and
Blood of Jesus Christ. This change is a miracle!
The word Eucharist means “thanksgiving.” When we receive
the Eucharist, we thank Jesus for all that He has given us.
We thank Him for his justice and His mercy. We thank Him
for the gift of salvation.
