ENTREVISTA O manejo tem grande importância para os Estados que pertencem à Floresta Amazônica. Para economias microrregionais dentro desses Estados como gerador de renda para os municípios e é um grande gerador de emprego também. Mas acima de tudo, o manejo florestal é o único uso do solo que mantém a cobertura florestal praticamente intacta e a única proposta de uso econômico, que mantém a floresta em pé. É o único uso plenamente sustentável para o bioma. >> Como a pesquisa florestal pode trazer novas soluções para o setor florestal? A pesquisa sobre o manejo florestal contribui de forma essencial. Atualmente temos uma legislação que permite uma taxa padrão de extração para todos os diferentes locais na Região Amazônia. A Amazônia é gigantesca e tem diferentes potencialidades, dependendo das condições locais ou distribuição das espécies. A pesquisa surge como uma possibilidade de desenvolver novos procedimentos para manejar espécies. Primeiro, conhecendo melhor as espécies, pois quanto mais informações temos sobre a árvore, melhor a forma de usufruir da madeira e preservar a continuidade daquela espécie. Por isso, a pesquisa serve para informar sobre as árvores de cada região, sobre a maturidade dos indivíduos ali presentes, isso faz com que a intervenção nessa floresta seja muito mais assertiva e produtiva. Utilizar uma mesma norma geral é um empecilho para o desenvolvimento do trabalho do manejo, pois as espécies apresentam comportamentos, ciclos e resultados diferentes. A pesquisa sobre manejo abre as possibilidades para que a legislação possa ser alterada e aplicada da melhor maneira possível. >> Como mostrar a importância do manejo sustentável da floresta para a sociedade? Na verdade existe uma grande confusão entre manejo, exploração florestal e desmatamento. A grande mídia também acaba fazendo confusão entre os termos e isso prejudica a visão da sociedade sobre manejo. The Region is gigantic and has different potentialities depending on local conditions or species distribution. Research emerges as a possibility to develop new procedures for handling species. Knowing the species better because the more information we have about the tree, the better is the way to enjoy the forest products and preserve the continuity of that species. Therefore, research informs us about the trees in each region and the maturity of the individuals present there. This helps the intervention in this forest be much more assertive and productive. Using the same general standard hinders the development of Forest Management work because the species have different behaviors, cycles, and results. Forest Management research allows legislation to be amended and applied in the best possible way. How can you show the importance of Sustainable Forest Management for society? There is much confusion between Forest Management, forest exploitation, and deforestation. The mainstream media also creates this confusion between the terms, undermining society’s view of Forest Management. Forest Management needs to be more disseminated and better explained to civil society so that the importance and seriousness of Forest Management can be understood.
