Christmas calendar with a visit
to Barnsley Museums’ fantastic
free sites.
A Very Victorian Christmas
at Cannon Hall
The traditional Christmas experience returns to
Cannon Hall Museum for another year with visits
from Santa and Scrooge plus a new seasonal trail.
From Tuesday 22nd November, the historic
Hall will be decorated in seasonal splendour inkeeping
with Victorian traditions. Can you find all
the items my true love sent to me on the 12 Days
of Christmas trail?
Throughout December, Father Christmas will
be making regular visits to Cannon Hall Museum
to meet the children of South Yorkshire. Hear the
Christmas story as told by a Victorian maid and
play with traditional Victorian toys. Tickets are
£12.50 per child and must be booked in advance.
On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December,
old miser, Ebeneezer Scrooge is back for his
popular retelling of A Christmas Carol. Join Chris
Cade for some audience participation in this heartwarming
production. There will be four 30-minute
sessions each day including a relaxed session
and two with a British Sign Language interpreter.
Tickets are £3 per child and £6 per adult and must
be booked in advance.
Shop around the Earl’s
workshops at Elsecar
For a truly unique Christmas shopping
experience, visit Elsecar Heritage Centre this
festive season to get all your shopping wrapped
up in one.
The former Earl’s ironworks are now filled with
independent businesses selling everything from
clothing and shoes to gifts and sweets. Take a
break from shopping at the two on-site cafes, the
beer shop or the Christmas Tipi which returns on
Tuesday 29th November.
For little visitors, why not turn your shopping
trip into an adventure with the family Christmas
trail that starts on Thursday 1st December. Pick
up a map from the visitor centre or download a
copy and find all the cuddly Christmas characters
hiding around the site.

Throwback to 1970s
trimmings at Experience
Barnsley
Once upon a time, it wouldn’t have been
Christmas until the ceiling was draped in foil
decorations. This festive season, Experience
Barnsley are throwing it back half a century with
some retro revival craft sessions. Chillax in the
‘70s style living room and have a go at
homemade decorations like paper chains and
snowflakes. Free craft activities available from
Saturday 26th November.
And going back a little further in time, don’t
forget to check out the TUT 22 exhibition detailing
the life of Tutankhamun and 100 years since the
discovery of his tomb.
Have a winter wander
around Worsbrough Mill
Robins have become a feathered emblem
of Christmas, but how many other winter visitors
can you spot on a visit to Worsbrough Mill? From
Thursday 1st December, be on the lookout for
the bird illustrations hidden around the reservoir.
Pick up your Winter Bird Trail map from the mill
shop or download it online.
On Sunday 11th December there will also be
a Christmas Fair between 10am-4pm with plenty
of food and gift stalls to treat yourself or someone
on your Christmas list.
