All I want for Christmas
is an air fryer
They’re the kitchen
gadget that everyone
has become obsessed
with. A convenient
appliance that
saves time, energy
and money without
compromising on
taste.
So if you own an air fryer – or
have put one on your wish list
– will you be cracking it out this
Christmas?
The sky’s the limit when it
comes to what you can cook in
an air fryer and your Christmas
dinner is no exception. From
roast potatoes and veggies to
your festive meats, an air fryer
will be a handy tool to help you
spend less time in the kitchen on
Christmas Day. They also free up
valuable oven and hob space so
you can cook multiple elements
of the dinner at once.
Air fryers use rapidly
circulating air to cook food
without needing to add a lot of
oil or fat. They cook things faster
and more efficient than traditional
ovens because of their small size
and how quickly air and heat
are circulated around the items
inside.
Models vary and some have
additional functions for grilling,
baking, dehydrating, or pressure
cooking. But even a basic air
fryer will be a game changer over
the festive period.
Here are some ways you can
use your air fryer for Christmas
dinner. These are general
guidelines so please remember
to check your model’s manual to
adapt the recipes to suit.
White meat
You’re probably never going to
get a whole turkey in an air fryer.
But a smaller turkey crown could
fit, depending on the size of your
air fryer basket.
Not everyone likes the taste of
turkey. If you are on your own, in
a couple or small family, then a
huge turkey often goes to waste.
Chicken is a cheaper (and often
tastier) alternative that can be
easily cooked in an air fryer.
Depending on how big your air
fryer is you may wish to use a
small or medium whole chicken.
The meat is so juicy and tender
with the crispiest skin. Not only
that, it can be ready in just under
an hour.
Preheat the air fryer to 180C
or just run it for five minutes to
heat up. Meanwhile, use spray
oil and season the meat to your
taste – maybe rosemary and
thyme or smoked paprika and
garlic powder.
Place the meat in the air fryer
basket breast side down and cook
for 30 minutes. Then carefully
flip and continue cooking for a
further 20 minutes or until cooked
through. Use a meat thermometer
to ensure the internal temperature
is 75C. Remove from the air
fryer and allow to rest uncovered
for 10 minutes before carving
and serving.
