with The Fountain
A winter walk is far more enticing when there’s a
charming country pub at the end of it and The Fountain at
Ingbirchworth is just the ticket.
A mainstay since 1849 in the pretty village
that sits between Penistone and Denby Dale, The
Fountain was saved from demolition by Barnsley’s
The Brook Group in 2020. Having been closed
since 2017, the historic building was in a sorry
state and underwent a complete refurbishment to
bring it back to life.
The newly restored pub is gorgeously styled
indoors, mixing the country charm of exposed
brick and beams with modern elements such
as contemporary seating and a ceiling made of
wine bottles.
The modern rustic feel extends out into the
spacious all-weather courtyard with covered
wooden booths and tables that have their own
chessboards – it’s even got an outdoor kiosk that
serves soup, sandwiches and seasonal hot drinks
to eat in or takeaway.
Escape from the cold weather with a beverage
to warm your cockles and order something hearty
and delicious from the menu. The new cheffing
team at The Fountain have developed a brandnew
menu ready for the autumn/winter period.
From tasty hot sandwiches to pub classics,
burgers and grills, The Fountain food menu is
bursting with tempting choices. Go traditional
with pan fried calves liver with bubble and squeak,
spice it up with Thai veg curry, or try the catch
of the day served with a thyme and garlic butter
fondant potato, mixed seasonal greens and a
spinach and chilli cream.
And with Ingbirchworth reservoir just a stone’s
throw away, The Fountain is the perfect pitstop on
a winter walk in the Pennines.
