FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT Style and substance at Seasons It’s one of South Yorkshire’s most aesthetically pleasing restaurants, an opulent paradise with décor that pulls out all the stops. But Season’s Restaurant in Wickersley delivers both style and substance aplenty. The wow-factor venue opened in March following extensive renovations to the former butchers and tattoo parlour premises. Set over two floors, the downstairs dining areas leads up to a mezzanine floor that can be hired for exclusive dining – the modern layout boasting high ceilings and endless natural light through double height windows. Design and presentation have taken centre stage throughout the restaurant, from the emerald velvet seating to the luxe gold accents and the theatrical blossom tree creating a photogenic atmosphere. Even the restrooms are Instagrammable with black Italian porcelain lavatories and wallpaper adorned with unicorns and tigers. But it’s not just the décor that has been thoughtfully designed. Artistic flair transcends down into the menu which has been devised around the idea of accessible luxury; nostalgic and satisfying British classics with a hint of modern fine dining. There’s a finesse you’d expect with haute cuisine without the perturbing portion sizes or prices. “ Artistic flair transcends down into the menu which has been devised around the idea of accessible luxury; nostalgic and satisfying British classics with a hint of modern fine dining ” Accompaniments and ingredients you don’t generally find locally such as blue cheese popcorn that comes with the pheasant kiev, smoked mackerel pate served with apple kaffir lime leaf gel and candied beets, or a parmesan panna cotta with brioche crumb – and they’re just the starters. The inventive team behind the seasonally changing menus include a consultant chef who worked for our new King Charles III at his private Isles of Scilly residence when he was the Duchy of Cornwall, and a head chef with 35 years’ experience who once helped build up the exclusive dining offer at a French Alps ski resort. Its extravagant interior and culinary panache make Seasons a destination for special occasions. But its so much more than that. There’s a new lunch menu that makes Seasons the perfect place to catch up in a laid-back vibe while enjoying an Asian-inspired salad, open flatbread sandwich, or brioche slider filled with lobster in marie rose sauce or pulled spicy lamb. An a la carte menu is served in the evenings which changes seasonally to show off the best local produce available. The chefs at Seasons work with many independent businesses such as Andrew’s Butchers and Lawn’s Farm Shop who supply all their quality meat products including venison, lamb, corn-fed chicken and grassfed beef steaks. Fruit and vegetables are always what’s in season, with autumn and winter dishes boasting comforting flavours of celeriac, chicory and chestnut. There are also many vegetarian and vegan options such as beetroot starter cooked five ways, or cauliflower parmigiana with Waldorf salad. Season’s Sunday lunch has become a hit for those looking for the comfort of a roast dinner elevated to gourmet levels. And you’ve got to leave room for one of their tempting desserts made by their talented pastry chefs. Think old-school puddings like cornflake tart but served with a silky crème patisserie and sugar shard. Or how about a white chocolate and Biscoff Cheesecake served with a torched plum? In the lead up to Christmas, Seasons will be launching their first festive fayre menu that will be served at both lunch and evening sittings alongside their winter a la carte menu. Classic turkey has been given the Seasons’ twist with a confit leg, pancetta and Henderson’s relish stuffing. Other options include bacon-wrapped monkfish loin with a mussel broth, pork fillet on a bed of Le Puy green lentils with cider jus, and a vegetable nut roast. Throughout December the restaurant will be hosting many seasonal events evenings with live entertainment from carol singers to crooners and a card-trick charmer. 88 aroundtownmagazine.co.uk
