McMullen, Raymond Richard<br />

Raymond was born August 5, 1920 in Vernon, <strong>BC</strong>. He enlisted in the <strong>BC</strong> Dragoons on June<br />

13, 1940 and went to Northwest Europe as a clerk, wireless operator, driver operator, gunner,<br />

and driver mechanic. He spent nine months as a P.O.W. in Stalag 12D. He was discharged on<br />

August 31, 1945. Raymond re-enlisted on May 12, 1947 in the Lord Strathcona’s Horse and<br />

in 1950, was promoted to Sergeant. He was posted to I & A Cadre in Vernon but returned to<br />

the Lord Strathcona’s Horse in 1956. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 1962 and<br />

to Warrant Officer in 1968. Raymond was released in May 1969. He later served with the<br />

Cadets and was Commanding Officer at Vernon Army Cadet Camp before he transferred to<br />

the Supplementary Reserve and was released in August 1986 as a Captain. He received the<br />

1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer<br />

Service Medal, the King George VI Medal, the Centennial Medal and the Canadian Service<br />

Medal and Bar. He was a <strong>Legion</strong> Member for forty-three years and a Life Member of Branch<br />

#25 Vernon and Branch #167, Lumby. He died in Vernon on March 5, 2003.<br />

BRITISH COLUMBIA / YUKON COMMAND<br />

McLauchlin, Douglas<br />

Douglas was born in Winona, Manitoba on May 18, 1918 and enlisted in the<br />

Army in Trail, <strong>BC</strong> in 1940. He did his basic training in Westminster, <strong>BC</strong><br />

and Aldershot, NS. Initially, he was with the Rocky Mountain Rangers but<br />

transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, going overseas in<br />

1942. He was attached to the Seaforth Highlanders and then to the Princess<br />

Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the United Kingdom. Douglas was<br />

discharged in 1946 and worked in the bush until he retired in 2005. He has<br />

been a member of Branch #167 in Lumby, <strong>BC</strong> for thirty-six years.<br />

McMullen, William (Bill)<br />

Bill was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy in 1967<br />

and took basic training in HMCS Cornwallis and Halifax, and then went to<br />

Camp Borden, Ontario to train as a ship’s writer. He was then posted to<br />

Esquimalt until 1971 and Canadian Forces Station Masset until 1974. Bill<br />

re-mustered at 1 st Air Movement in Edmonton as a traffic technician in the<br />

Air Force. After qualifying as a load master, he joined 436 Squadron in<br />

Trenton and while there, did a six-month tour on the Golan Heights in Israel.<br />

He was with 2 Air Movement Units until 1981 with 429 Squadron in<br />

Winnipeg before going to Calgary, Vancouver, and finally, in 1991,<br />

Edmonton. Bill retired in 1996. He is a Life Member and Past President of<br />

<strong>Legion</strong> Branch #167 in Lumby, <strong>BC</strong>, where he has been a member for<br />

twenty-seven years.<br />
