Reeve, Ernest Owen<br />

Owen was born in Squamish, <strong>BC</strong> on November 23, 1915. He joined the Army<br />

in the summer of 1941 and trained in Vernon, <strong>BC</strong> and later in Kingston, ON.<br />

Owen was assigned to the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals as part of the 1 st<br />

Canadian Infantry Division of the Canadian Army. His responsibility was to<br />

provide land communication and signalling. Owen was sent to the<br />

Mediterranean as part of the Operation Husky invasion of Sicily and about six<br />

weeks later took part in the assault upon Italy. He arrived in Rome on D-Day<br />

(June 6, 1944). Owen then went to Marseilles and through France to meet up<br />

with the rest of the Allied Western Front. His division joined in the assault<br />

through Belgium, Holland, and Germany and he was discharged early in the<br />

winter of 1946. Owen has been a member of Diamond Head <strong>Legion</strong> Branch<br />

#277 in Squamish for over fifty years of service.<br />

BRITISH COLUMBIA / YUKON COMMAND<br />

Redekop, Frank James<br />

Frank was born in Burnaby, <strong>BC</strong> on November 9, 1965. He enlisted in the<br />

Canadian Forces in 1983 in Vancouver and after basic training in CFB<br />

Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, was posted to CFB Petawawa for further training<br />

as a member of the 8 th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s). He was<br />

rotated to CFB Lahr with his regiment in 1987 and retired in 1989 because<br />

of knee problems. Frank was awarded the Special Service Medal<strong>–</strong>NATO.<br />

He has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #006 for twenty-three years and is<br />

currently Branch Vice President.<br />

Reid, Walter George<br />

Walter was born in Whakatane, New Zealand in 1939. He came to Canada<br />

in 1959 and joined the Army in January 1960. He served two hitches in the<br />

Signal Corps, stationed at the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre (CJATC)<br />

Rivers, Manitoba with Air Support Signal Troop and overseas on a UN<br />

Peacekeeping tour in the Congo. Walter lives in Errington, <strong>BC</strong>, where he is<br />

an Alpaca hobby farmer. He has been a member of Arrowsmith <strong>Legion</strong><br />

Branch #49 in Parksville, <strong>BC</strong> for three years.<br />
