If you have no agenda, as personally
I think the case should be on a good
daytrip, wandering into a shop you’ve
never been to before can be a dizzying
experience. Albeit I didn’t have a day, so
much as an hour, when I found myself
nudged to walk through London’s Attic
Books. With ample lighting and clearly
marked sections, finding your way is
easy through the two floors of curiosities.
I say curiosities because
just as they state on their
front navy blue facade –
it’s not just books you’ll
find here.
There’s something
about the hardwood
floors of an old book shop
that make you want to
slow your pace and take
your time as you move
around the shelves seeing
which titles catch your
eyes. Vintage postcards
and stamps to ignite
the imagination to send
exquisite mail to friends

Random chairs set next to bookcases
throughout the two floors invite anyone
to take a seat and linger a little longer
with a book or two. With the better part
of my hour having gotten away from me
while strolling the shelves, asking if there
was a restroom and being directed to a
door titled “The Bog” made me chuckle,
having not known at the
time it is an informal
term for bathroom.
With such a vast
assortment of subjects
and objects, I found
myself wanting more
than the hour I had
allotted for myself to
look through. I ended
up walking away having
purchased a few books
I’ll gift to friends and a
really interesting piece of
art that I plan on gifting
my partner at Christmas
time.
