Remembering Barbara Grostick
By: Rana Goodman & Dan Roberts
Our Vegas Voice Executive Director (and Dan’s Bronx Buddy) Bill
Caserta’s “domestic partner” Barbara Grostick passed away last
month.
She is survived by her two sisters
Becky and Beth, daughter Jennifer
and grandchildren Lyndon, Lily and
Laura.
And that does not include her Vegas
Voice family who have no words to
describe our grief and sadness. Our
deepest symphony and condolences
to Bill.
We have the obituary from
Barbara’s sisters setting forth what
a remarkable life Barbara had. Her service to others was legendary,
including her love and dedication to her Community Lutheran Church.
Barbara exemplified all that was good in a person.
We can list her numerous accomplishments but these are simply
“facts.” And in her passing, it’s not the awards that count, but how she
made everyone smile and feel that really matters.
Bill’s daughters Laura and Lynn in a few sentences correctly spelled
out how truly special Barabra was:
You brought so much joy and happiness to our dad and families
throughout the years. Thank you for making our kids feel so very
special and loved. People like you deserve the largest wings and the
brightest halos.
And our friend Bruce
Ewing was able to perfectly
express what everyone who
knew Barabara felt: One of
the sweetest, kindest people
I’ve ever known has moved
on to eternal life today.
Barbara was simply the
best.
Dan and I always had the
pleasure and absolute joy of
having Barbara as part of our
lives. From vacation trips to
simply going out with Bill
and Barbara for lunch or dinner, we always smiled and laughed.
We would constantly credit Barbara for having the remarkable skill
and patience for putting up with Bill on a daily basis. And while we
would laugh as she rolled her eyes as she hilariously replied with “if
only you knew” responses, there was never any doubt of her love for
Bill - and that Bill felt the same way towards her.
Her friends, her extended family (including her Vegas Voice
family), her now broken-hearted canine, Buster and everyone who
knew or she touched in so many ways will always treasure and love her.
We don’t know how one can measure a person’s value and existence
on this earth. We guess if you are loved, cared for, and be forever
missed when you are no longer around; you’ve had a worthwhile and
exceptional life.
By these standards, Barbara Grostick was a success beyond her wildest
dreams. May she rest in peace.
