if you understand his meaning, if<br />

truth, or if he reasons correctly. <strong>The</strong>n proceed to<br />

the next sentence, and repeat this mental process.<br />

In this way, you will taste a hitherto unknown pleasure,<br />

and derive vast profit from the books you read.<br />

As to the best books for your use, you had better<br />

consult some judicious friends. Your parents, your<br />

pastor, or your teacher, will give you all necessary<br />

advice on this point.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is no book so well adapted to improve both<br />

the head and the heart as the Bible. It is a triea<br />

book : its utility is demonstrated <strong>by</strong> experience ; us<br />

necessity is confessed <strong>by</strong> all who have studied tne<br />

wants of human nature ; it has wrung reluctant<br />

praises from the lips of its foes. Adopt it lor ycur<br />

daily companion. Head it thoroughly, patiently,<br />

carefully. Read a portion of it daily, on your knees,<br />
