within herself, every beauty of the scrul, that she<br />

might gratify the insatiate demands of<br />

her ambition.<br />

And may not these<br />

things be done <strong>by</strong> young ladies<br />

who shiver at the bare recital of the mode through<br />

which she displayed the workings of her unfilial and<br />

unsisterly heart ? What shall be said of thai<br />

daughter who treats a mother with contempt, and a<br />

father with disregard ? What of her, who idly<br />

wastes her time, and leaves an aged or a feeble<br />

mother to toil unaided in domestic duties ? What of<br />

her, whose insufTerable temper destroys the happiness<br />

of the family circle, who tyrannizes over her<br />

brothers and sisters, whose wastefulness and vanity<br />

exhaust a father's means, and burden<br />

him with care<br />

that crushes his soul ?<br />

Or of her, who, despising all<br />

parental<br />

counsel and authority, wilfully and blindly<br />

rushes into forbidden and dangerous society, there<strong>by</strong><br />

inflicting pangs more painful than the dagger's<br />

btroke upon the anguished spirits of her father and<br />

mother ? Are such young ladies wholly free from<br />

the sin of Tullia ? Nay ! She violated filial and sisterly<br />

ties ; they do the same. Thus far they resem-
