you draw many pleasant sounds. Permit me to give<br />

you a lesson upon it. You know it contains many<br />

wires, all of which are called into use at times, and<br />

are necessary" to its perfection. Each of these wires<br />

has its ouTi peculiar sound, which it must render<br />

precisely, else a discord jars on your ear, and destroys<br />

the harmony of the music. To create and to preserve<br />

this harmony, it has to be submitted to the<br />

skilful hand and ear of the tuner ; otherwise, as a<br />

musical instrument, it would fail to afford you pleasure.<br />

However costly in its materials and mag-nificent<br />

in its external finish, you would only be pained<br />

<strong>by</strong> its presence, so long as its tuneless state forbade<br />

you to touch a key. But, once in perfect tune, you<br />

enjoy exquisite delight, as its delicious melody fills<br />

your enraptured ear.<br />

It is thus with your mind. It has various (unctions<br />

and qualities, intellectual and moral, each of<br />

which IS designed to act in a specific manner; and<br />

which miist so act, to constitute you happy in yourself,<br />

and an instrument of good to society.<br />

But, like<br />

the piano, the mind is out of tune. Though in-
