plans, studies, amusements, and friends ; relieve<br />

your mother as much as possible, <strong>by</strong> rendering her<br />

assistance in household labors to the very limit of<br />

your ability ; never permit yourself to be disagreeable<br />

or resentful to your brothers and sisters, and<br />

study to find your own pleasure in promoting the<br />

happiness of the family circle. Thus will filial<br />

aflfection grow strong and beautiful in your soul.<br />

Vour home will be sweet and delightful. Your<br />

parents will rejoice over you, as an olive plant of<br />

valued loveliness, and you will be fitted to make<br />

those heroic sacrifices, if the exigency should ever<br />

occur, which have immortalized the names of Ruth,<br />

of Elizabeth the exile's daughter, of Sombreuil's<br />

child, and of other illustrious women.<br />

to filial obligations. God loves a faithful child, and<br />

has condescended to incorporate his high regard for<br />
