a parent's kiss, when it approvingly touches the lips<br />

of a daughter in the bridal hour. On the contrary,<br />

that bridal day is dark which has its sun obscured<br />

<strong>by</strong> the shadow of a parent's frown.<br />

Having a parent's approval, and a kindred spirit<br />

for a suitor, you still need to cultivate caution in the<br />

intimacies of courtship. While you avoid all coquettishness<br />

of 'spirit, you must also guard against<br />

too much freedom. Be frank, simple, trustful hi<br />

your intercourse, but avoid all boldness on<br />

your own<br />

part, and shrink from the least approach to impropriety<br />

on his. Do not permit your lover to remain<br />

in your company later than ten o'clock in the evening<br />

; it ought to make a young lady blush even to<br />

persons. Your conversation ought also to be seatoned<br />

with common sense. All mere soft, silly talk
