The night commenced with a warm welcome during a cocktail hour where guests had the opportunity to check in and cast their votes for next year’s Board of Directors. The evening’s highlights were marked by the induction of esteemed individuals and companies into the MWFA’s 2023 Hall of Fame. This year, the Company Award was granted to Abbott Interfast, a business with a remarkable history. Founded in 1948 by Martin Binder, the company was later led by his son, Richard Binder, and is currently guided by his grandson, Jeff Binder. Abbott Interfast began its journey on North Clark Street in Chicago, operating as Abbott Screw & Manufacturing Co. In 1967, they acquired Continental Screw Machine, eventually relocating to Wheeling, where they became renowned for manufacturing fasteners, including Multi Spindle Acme & Davenports, and distributing locknuts. Abbott Interfast’s commitment to the industry and the association’s endeavors is evident in their consistent support, spanning 75 years, making them one of the original exhibitors at the CBNSA/MWFA Fasteners Shows. In addition to Abbott Interfast’s recognition, the MWFA proudly inducted three remarkable individuals into the Hall of Fame this year: Bob O’Brien, Rich Pease, and Bruce Wheeler. Bob O’Brien, a seasoned veteran in the fastener industry, has been a vital part of Certified Fastener & Industrial Supply (CFIS) for over two decades and boasts more than 40 years of industry experience. He has served in various positions on the MWFA Board, including President and Treasurer, and played a crucial role in transitioning the association from the CBNSA to MWFA. Bob’s unwavering commitment to the association’s success makes him a respected figure within the industry. Rich Pease, the CEO and owner of RK Products, is celebrated for his exceptional sales and product marketing skills. He is not only a leader in his field but also a dedicated educator who believes in empowering individuals through knowledge. Rich has served as President of the MWFA (2010) and sat on the Board of Directors from 2006 to 2016, contributing significantly as the Education Chairman. Under his guidance, the MWFA witnessed educational programs of a higher caliber, with specialized instructors and a wide range of classes. Bruce Wheeler embarked on his journey in 1973, working in the warehouse of Star Stainless Screw Company in Totowa, NJ. Over the years, he played a crucial role in every department within the company. His journey began working alongside his father in the warehouse, and he later transitioned to the Sales Department, where he dedicated nearly a decade. When Star Stainless expanded into the Midwest, Bruce relocated from New Jersey to the Wood Dale, IL branch as the Branch Manager.
