e o r u m, first e d i t i o n, double column, 331 ff. (of 332, lacking final
blank), 57 lines and headline, Roman type, a1 in red and black,
woodcut decorative initials, woodcut printer’s device to foot of
R8 verso, 17th century ink ownership inscription to a1 and front
pastedown, occasional early ink marginalia, some water-staining
and foxing, mostly marginal, but encroaching within text on sigs.
d&e and a few other ff. (mostly light), c4 upper corner repaired,
not affecting text, 16th century vellum over wooden boards, metals
clasps, hole near head of spine, stained and marked, [BMC VII,
1047; Goff N-6; Hain 11676], folio, [Vicenza], [Henricus de Sancto
Ursio], [12th December, 1493]. £2,500 - £3,500
*** The scarce first edition of this lives of the saints.

78. Early Printed leaves & cuttings.- Co l l e C t i o n, including: a
leaf from Francesco Colonna’s Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, ?1545;
a leaf from Hartmann Schedel’s Nuremberg Chronicle, 1497; and
several other incunable ff., among them two with woodcuts, and
partial ff. from a legal text retrieved from a binding; also a group
of early printed title pages, printers’ marks etc., and folio woodcut
ff. in Dutch; two conjoint ff. with Crucifixion scene and musical
notation, 16th cent; and a 19th cent. Italian printed commemorative
text for a visit to North Italy by the Austro-Hungarian emperor,
some browned, some edges chipped, v.s., v.d., (c. 150 pieces).

column, 50 lines, Gothic type, title decorated in red, initials supplied
in red, one in blue, small tears to title, 2 repaired, marginal holes
to next 2 ff., small holes to margin of last 4 ff., heavy brown stain to
2nd & 5th ff., lighter stain to last few ff., little syaining & marking
elsewhere, early, mostly obliterated, ownership note on title, early
marginalia to Table, at head of Bede, and occasionally elsewhere,
scoring, vellum strip with ownership inscription, and bookplate, on
front paste-down, contemporary calf over wooden boards, covers
decorated in blind, with roll-tooled border of flowers and birds,
and central panel, brass corner and centre-pieces, and remains
of clasps, vellum title-lable on front cover, rebacked, spine blindstamped,
gilt-lettered, small gilt arms at head, [BMC I 162; Goff
E-129; Hain 6714], folio, Strassburg, [Georg Husner], 1500.
