edges, a little light water-staining to lower margins on a few ff.,<br />
2T1&2 lightly browned, early 19th century polished calf, gilt, gilt<br />
spine in compartments with gilt Devonshire monogram at head and<br />
leather label, spine slightly faded, [cf. Wing S891], folio, S.Griffin,<br />
for H.Twyford, Tho.Dring, and I, 1660. £800 - £1,200<br />
*** Rare at auction. We can trace only three copies offered since<br />
1976. This appears to be a variant of the first edition Wing S891.<br />
A copy with the same collation is present in the Bodleian. Includes<br />
Sicily and Malta in addition to mainland Italy.<br />

antique style panelled calf, spine gilt, spine slightly faded, [Wing<br />
V48A; cf. Blackmer 1712], small folio, J.Macock, for John Place,<br />

*** The text consists of 54 letters written by della Valle to the<br />
neapolitan physician Schipano duting the course of his travels<br />
through the Holy Land, Syria, Persia and India. The greatest number<br />
of letters are from Persia and Constantinople.<br />
61
