manuscript on vellum, in Latin, 7 ff., 14 lines, written in black ink in
an elegant lettre batarde, modern vellum, c. 135 x 90 mm., France,
late fifteenth century. £300 - £400
*** An attractive fragment containing John’s account of the events
leading up to the Crucifixion.

10. Pentecost, s i n g l e l e a f f r o m a bo o k o f ho u r s, illuminated
manuscript on vellum, large miniature of Pentecost, the Virgin
kneeling at prayer, surrounded by seven apostles, with more just
visible in the background, the Holy Ghost above, in an architectural
setting, with three lines of text below, in a gothic liturgical hand,
with a full border of naturalistic foliage, flowers and fruits on a
yellow ground, with a bird on one side and a monkey playing a
dulcimer (?) below, framed and glazed, 155 x 110 mm., [Southern
Netherlands, ?Bruges, c.1500]. £3,000 - £4,000

?ribbon appended with good impression, folds, 126 x 326mm., 10th
September 1507; and 21 others, including 4 more 16th century items
relating to Kent (Bettisden, Egerton and Pluckley), deeds and bonds
relating to Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Lancashire (Rochdale) etc., and
a small quantity of others, 18th and 19th century paper documents,
including wills, copies of enclosure awards, abstracts of titles, v.s.,
v.d. (qty). £300 - £400

manuscript in French, on paper, 45 ff., with 1 preliminary and 13
final blank ff., c. 30 lines, written in black ink in a clear secretarial
hand, with some marginalia, and the last 2 ff. in difference, slightly
later hands, some marking, the last 2 ff soiled and the margins
frayed, with very slught loss, bound in a leaf from a large manuscript
bible, France, 12th century, from Revelations ch 20 & 21, double
column, 29 lines, rubruicated, 2 initials, one with pen-and-ink
decoration, worn and soiled, holed on spine and elsewhere, inner
text partly covered, modern cloth drop-down case, c. 260 x 170 mm.,
Domdidier, c. 1580. £400 - £600
*** Census of the lands and rents due to the parish priest, ‘Pierre de
Disieu’, of ‘Dompeddier’, now Domdidier, in the canton of Fribourg,
Switzerland. It consists of a ‘Repertoire..’, listing the forty-eight
tenants of Domdidier and the associated hamlet ‘Eyssy’, followed
by extensive details of their lands, families, marriages, leases, rents
&c, providing a full account of the intricate economic workings of
a recently post-feudal village. Many of the names of the villagers
are still found in the area today. The binding is a sadly mutilated
fragment of what must have been a most handsome bible.
