*** Françoise Gilot, lover and muse to Pable Picasso and mother<br />

to two of his children. An accomplished artist in her own right, the<br />

full-page ‘doodle’ depicts a sailing boat, perhaps an echo of her<br />

painting ‘Asleep, Paloma in the Water, a Sail Boat’. The inscription<br />

is to Mr & Mrs J.S. Gunn, both whom of worked for Thomas<br />

Nelson & Sons, and is accompanied by a printed invitation from<br />

the publishers to a meeting with Gilot at Claridges to celebrate this<br />

work’s publication.<br />

222. Greene (Graham) th e ma n within, first e d i t i o n, fore-edge<br />

a little spotted, original cloth, slightly cocked, dust-jacket, spine<br />

slightly darkened and a little frayed at head, very light surface<br />

soiling, but overall an excllent copy, 8vo, 1929. £1,500 - £2,000<br />

*** The author’s first novel, published when he was only twenty-five.<br />

inscribed by Marlene Dietrich on title, photographic illustrations,<br />

American distributor’s label to lower panel, a fine copy, 8vo, 1968.<br />

224. Stoker (Bram) th e Je w e l o f se v e n sta r s, first e d i t i o n,<br />

browning to margins with some scattered foxing, a few minor<br />

splits and closed tears, hinges pulling, original red cloth with blind<br />

illustration on covers and lettered in black & gilt, rubbed at edges<br />

and worn at corners, slightly marked, spine dulled, 8vo, 1903.<br />

*** One of the rarer Stoker titles as a first edition, probably due to<br />

the fragile nature of the production.<br />
