The Wall <strong>and</strong> its Associated<br />
Regime<br />
A key factor governing durable solutions. Voluntariness means not only the<br />
absence of measures that push or coerce the refugee to repatriate, but also<br />
that he or she should not be prevented from returning.<br />
The Wall in the occupied West Bank is either a concrete wall approximately<br />
8-9 metres high with watchtower <strong>and</strong> sniper positions, or an electric<br />
barrier approximately 3-5 meters high with a buffer zone, ditches, razor<br />
wire, electronic sensors <strong>and</strong> cameras. The Associated Regime is a set of<br />
administrative decisions composed of military orders (l<strong>and</strong>, property<br />
confiscation), closed areas, a new permit system <strong>and</strong> new regulations at<br />
checkpoints (or terminals) <strong>and</strong> gates.<br />
Zionism A political movement established in the late 19 th century in response to the<br />

that the aim of Zionism is to create <strong>for</strong> the Jewish people a home in Palestine<br />
