20 Commission 1 – Reference Frames<br />

At the workshop of the SIRGAS Working Group 1 in Rio<br />

de Janeiro, August 16-18, 2006, it was decided to install<br />

Experimental Analysis Centers (EAC) for SIRGAS under<br />

the responsibility of Latin American institutions. The test<br />

phase of the one-year experiment has started in October,<br />

2006 in order to prove the operational capacity of the<br />

EAC’s to provide weekly coordinate solutions and to<br />

support the IGS RNAAC SIR processing.<br />

Reference Frame for Antarctica (SCAR)<br />

The objective of <strong>IAG</strong> Sub-Commission 1.3f is the definition,<br />

realization and maintenance of the reference frame<br />

for Antarctica (DIETRICH 2005).<br />

The SCAR GPS Campaigns 2004 and 2005 were carried<br />

out in the Australian summers 2004 and 2005. All together,<br />

the data of 36 sites are now collected in the SCAR GPS<br />

database with the year 1995. The new as well the existing<br />

data were reanalysed with the Bernese Software, Version<br />

5.0. First results were presented at the XXVIII. SCAR<br />

Metting in Bremen (Germany) in July 2004.<br />

For the ITRF2005 a densification solution for Antarctica<br />

was computed and submitted to the IERS Central Bureau<br />

at February 28th , 2005. The solution contains 31 IGS sites<br />

and 27 SCAR Campaign sites.<br />

During the XXVIII. SCAR meeting in Bremen the members<br />

of the <strong>IAG</strong> Sub-Commission 1.3f met and discussed the<br />

working plan of the SCAR Group of Experts on Geodetic<br />

Infrastructure in Antarctica (GIANT) and fixed it for the<br />

years 2004 until 2006. R. DIETRICH (TU Dresden) was<br />

selected as new chairman of GIANT. The members of<br />

GIANT represent the SC-1.3f.<br />

The International Polar Year 2007/2008 will be an intensive<br />

period of scientific activities in the polar regions. It is<br />

organized jointly by ICSU and WMO, and a broad range<br />

of coordinated, international projects are in preparation. The<br />

SC-1.3f will actively participate in the frame of the project<br />

POLENET (Pole Earth Observing Network).<br />
