AUSTRIA – WHITE WINE
LENZ MOSER PRESTIGE GRÜNER
VELTLINER 2009
Niederösterreich
Niederösterreich (Lower Austria) is a large area
that includes the sub-appellations Kremstal,
Kamptal and Wachau, amongst others. Lenz Moser’s
premium, limited-quantity varietal wines are
released under the Prestige label. An excellent
white wine for your cellar (3-5 years), this fresh,
balanced GV is also a good choice for seafood
stews, grilled salmon or chicken paprika.
FRANCE – WHITE WINE
ALSACE
WUNSCH & MANN
GEWURZTRAMINER 2008
AC Alsace
TASTING NOTE: Wunsch & Mann came into
existence in 1948, but the Mann family’s involvement
in the viticulture of the area dates back to
the late 18th century. This is a lovely and complex
Gewurztraminer. Look for Turkish delight, peach,
pear juice, binned apples, lychee, rose petal, and
spice on the nose. The palate is dry and medium
bodied, with a crisp acidity. This wine has a lovely
structure, with all the elements in balance. Pair
with jumbo shrimp, or a red curry with fish or seafood.
BURGUNDY
DOMAINE BERNARD DEFAIX
CÔTE DE LECHET CHABLIS
1 er CRU 2008
AC
TASTING NOTE: Almost invisible wood treatment
sets off extremely fresh and classic citrus and stone
aromas that are in keeping with the surprisingly
rich and full-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense
of underlying precision and tension while culminating
in a racy, very dry and palate staining finish that
exudes plenty of Chablis character. In a word,
terrific. Drink [from] 2014+. Score: 92 (Allen
Meadows, www.burghound.com, Oct. 2010)
DOMAINE EUGÉNIE CARRION
CHABLIS 2009
AC
TASTING NOTE: This is classic Chablis, with lots
of citrus fruit and green apple notes on the nose.
Dry and round, with good weight and a lovely
texture, it shows wonderful citrus character and that
quintessential minerality on the palate. The finish
is long and exquisite. Enjoy with a potato-crusted
salmon and a fresh herb salad. (VINTAGES panel,
FRANÇOIS MARTENOT
LES HAUTS BOIS
MEURSAULT 2007
AC
TASTING NOTE: Straw-gold in colour and with
aromas of toast, grilled nuts, biscuits, vanilla
and yellow apples with a subtle and lifting floral
note. The palate of this single-vineyard bottling
is balanced, dry, with a crisp acidity, and it echoes
the nose beautifully. Rich and full in style with a
nutty medium-long finish, this will pair nicely with
baked fish in mushroom sauce. (VINTAGES panel,
LA CHABLISIENNE SAINT-BRIS
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008
AC
The Saint-Bris appellation is unique in Burgundy
as it features the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Impress
your guests with this tidbit, and with this tasty
Burgundian Savvy. David Schildknecht, writing on
Jancis Robinson’s website, stated in May 2004
that “the best growers farming this appellation ...
render among the most fascinating and delicious
Sauvignons on the planet.” Try it with a ratatouille,
or grilled white fish with a lemon-dill sauce.
