CORTE MAJOLI RIPASSO VALPOLICELLA
SUPERIORE 2007
DOC
Vanio Tezza represents a new generation of
Veneto winemakers. While still in his 20s, he
took over the family estate after the death of his
father. He operates with the utmost respect for
the traditions of Ripasso production, but also
brings a modern flair to every wine the property
produces. Layered and complex with notes of
ripe plum, raspberry and cocoa, this wine is
medium-full bodied, round, rich and fruity. All of
the elements are in perfect balance. Enjoy this
with braised beef dishes.
MONTE ZOVO SA’ SOLIN RIPASSO
VALPOLICELLA 2008
DOC
Year after year, this fabulous Ripasso is a major hit
with VINTAGES customers. It’s fruit-forward with
layers of cranberry, cherry, herb, peppery spice
and meaty notes. Dry with a medium-full body
and a lingering finish, it has the structure to match
flavourful dishes such as roast leg of lamb or
gourmet pizza with the works. Its upfront style also
makes it a pleasant sipping wine.
SARTORI L’APPASSITO
ROSSO 2008
IGT Veneto
This is a rich and invigorating wine with intense
aromas of dried fruit and spice. Its unusual blend of
Corvina Veronese, Molinara, Cabernet Sauvignon
and Merlot prevents this wine from being called a
Ripasso, but it is made in the same manner. The
palate is dry and tremendously well structured with
integrated tannins that work wonderfully well
with the vibrant fruit. Try this tonight with grilled
roast beef or with a platter of flavourful cheeses.
TOMMASI VIGNETO
LE PRUNÉE MERLOT 2008
IGT delle Venezie
Tommasi has been producing wines for nearly
110 years. Their single-vineyard Merlot, with its
deep ruby-red colour and chocolate, berry and
cappuccino notes, is a real crowd-pleaser. This
wine is the perfect way to add a touch of elegance
to an evening. Easy-drinking and superbly
food-friendly, it is a natural partner for meaty pasta.
VILLA GIRARDI AMARONE DELLA
VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2005
DOC
Made using Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and
Molinara, this wine uses grapes that are first fully
dried on mats before being pressed and then
aged for 3 years in 35-litre Slovanian oak barrels.
The resulting wine is filled with aromas and flavours
of black plum, sweet cherry, vanilla, dried
meat and dark chocolate. This dry, intense wine
is an excellent match for rich meat dishes, or enjoy
it after a hearty meal with dark chocolate
(70% cacao and above).
PORTUGAL – WHITE WINE
VENTOZELO
QV BRANCO 2009
DOC Douro
TASTING NOTE: Moscatel dominates the blend of
this wine and gives a perfumed character. It has
some good weight and freshness, a bright green
plum and pear flavor. The acidity and ripe fruit
are well in balance. Score: 88 (Roger Voss, Wine
Enthusiast, Aug. 1, 2010)
