SAINT-ROCH VIEILLES VIGNES
CÔTES DU ROUSSILLON 2009
AC, Unfiltered
TASTING NOTE: A blend of Syrah and Grenache
that really shines. Fresh berry, cassis, cherry
and red plum are at the forefront, accented by
herbal notes, with the whole arrangement replaying
steadily on the palate. A blend that’s smooth
and creamy, with a dry finish. Savour this French
pleaser with tandoori chicken, or ratatouille.
RHÔNE
CHÂTEAU DE NAGES RÉSERVE 2009
AC Costières de Nîmes
(R. Gassier, Prop.-Récolt.)
TASTING NOTE: The Gassier family, who craft this
wine, have been winemakers for four generations.
This creamy red sports a nose of fresh raspberries
and spice. The raspberry continues further in the
aromas and flavours, along with recurring notes of
black plum, chocolate, toffee, black pepper, baked
fruit and toast. A wine with a sweet core, good
length, and a lightly spicy finish. Thoroughly enjoyable
with a variety of cheddars, or cinnamon
chicken. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)
CHÂTEAU DE SAINT COSME
LES DEUX ALBION
CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2008
AC
(Louis Barruol, Prop.-Récolt.)
TASTING NOTE: The 2008 Cotes du Rhone Les
Deux Albion comes from Grenache planted in the
Plan de Dieu and around the village of Carignan.
Dark ruby/purple-hued, it offers plenty of kirsch and
cassis notes intermixed with notions of underbrush,
pepper, and earth. The wine cuts a broad,
medium to full-bodied swath across the palate,
and possesses impressive purity, length, and depth.
It should drink nicely for 2-3 years. Drink: 2009-
2012. Score: 90 (Robert Parker Jr., www.erobertparker.com,
Oct. 2009)
CLOS DU CALVAIRE
CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2007
AC
(Vignobles Mayard)
TASTING NOTE: Enormous aromas of ground
pepper, Asian spices, roasted Provencal herbs,
black cherries, and black currants jump from the
glass of the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007
Chateauneuf du Pape Clos du Calvaire. Full-bodied,
sexy, lush, and opulent, with enormous upfront
appeal as well as good substance and depth, it
should age nicely for a decade or more. Score: 90
DOMAINE DE LA BASTIDE CUVÉE
LES FIGUES CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2009
AC
TASTING NOTE: 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache,
20% Carignan. A fresh raspberry jam nose makes
way for sweet and spicy flavours of fig, plum,
dried prune, redcurrant and black pepper. There’s
a stony minerality here, but with a sweet core,
and a delightfully fruity finish. A medium-bodied
Rhône red that will go beautifully alongside penne
carbonara or butter chicken. (VINTAGES panel,
April 2010)
DOMAINE NOTRE DAME
DES PALLIÈRES LES MOURRES
GIGONDAS 2007
AC
TASTING NOTE: Medium-deep ruby with aromas
of crushed raspberry, underbrush, blackberry,
pepper and other spices. Dry with fairly big fruit
surrounded by fresh acidity and softening
tannins. The mid-palate features a pretty spicy
fruitiness. Medium bodied with a fairly long
finish. Enjoy with roast leg of lamb or even lamb
burgers. (VINTAGES panel, Dec. 2010)
