FRANCE – WHITE WINE CONT’D
LOIRE
CÉDRICK BARDIN
POUILLY-FUMÉ 2009
AC
TASTING NOTE: This is classic Poully-Fumé,
loaded with layers of citrus, gooseberry, a light
smoky minerality and delicate herbal aromas
on the nose. The palate is dry with a crisp and racy
acidity, lively citrus flavours and again a lovely
delicate herbal quality. Enjoy with fish topped with
lemon and light butter. (VINTAGES panel, May 2010)
202416 (XD) 750 mL $21.95 1
MIDI
BEAUVIGNAC PICPOUL DE PINET 2009
AC Coteaux de Languedoc, Sud de France
(Cave Les Costières de Pomerols)
TASTING NOTE: The gloriously fruity, perfumed,
light-bodied 2009 Picpoul de Pinet reveals copious
notes of honeyed citrus (grapefruit and lemon
zest), good acidity, and delicate honeyed pear-like
flavors. Consume it over the next year. Drink:
2010-2011. Score: 88 (Robert Parker Jr.,
www.erobertparker.com, Aug. 2010)
350124 (XD) 750 mL $11.95 1
TERRES BLANCHES SEC MUSCAT 2009
Vin de Pays d’Oc
(Cave de Frontignan)
TASTING NOTE: Some theorize that Muscat is the
oldest domesticated grape variety, having been
traced back thousands of years. This Muscat has
aromas of ripe peach and floral, foreshadowing
the palate-pleasing notes of apricot, honey, citrus,
apple, and tangerine. Beautifully structured, this
medium-bodied white ends in a dry, balanced
finish. A first-rate accompaniment to a Swiss cheese
quiche, or butternut squash risotto. (VINTAGES
panel, April 2010)
FRANCE – RED WINE
BORDEAUX
CHÂTEAU D’ARGAN 2008
AC Médoc
Silver Medal winner at the Challenge
International du Vin 2010.
TASTING NOTE: Though renowned for the likes of
Latour, Lafite-Rothschild and Margaux, the famous
houses do not tell Bordeaux’s whole story. Like
the wines it is known for, Bordeaux is itself layered
and complex, with many hidden treasures. This
medal-winner delivers rich notes of cassis, blackberry,
plum, black pepper, oak and dark chocolate
on the nose. The palate is dry, medium bodied, and
adds a touch of mint. Lovely medium-long finish.
Enjoy with rack of lamb or gourmet sausages.
(VINTAGES panel, May 2010)
199018 (D) 750 mL $16.95 2
BURGUNDY
JOSÉPHINE DUBOIS GRANDE RÉSERVE
PINOT NOIR BOURGOGNE 2009
AC
A flavourful, fresh and fruity Pinot from the 2009
vintage. This is a very good bellwether for the fine
quality to come with the 2009 red Burgundies.
Look for classic cherry, beetroot and plum aromas
and flavours. Enjoy it with veal tenderloin or
filet mignon.
208025 (D) 750 mL $15.95 2
CHÂTEAU CAMPLAZENS
LA GARRIGUE 2007
La Cape, AC Coteaux du Languedoc
TASTING NOTE: This wine, from the excellent
2007 vintage, won the trophy for Best Languedoc-
Roussillon Red at the prestigious International
Wine Challenge in 2010. Alluring notes of licorice
and tobacco in the nose reveal further aromas
and flavours of rich red fruit, white pepper, beetroot,
creamy chocolate and vanilla. A silky, mediumbodied
red with a beautifully spiced finish and
terrific length. Treat yourself after a long day with
a chicken casserole. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)
195008 (D) 750 mL $16.95 2
