CASA DE LA ERMITA
ROBLE 2008
DO Jumilla
TASTING NOTE: Jumilla, with its Monastrellbased
(aka Mourvèdre) wines, is an up-and-coming
Spanish wine region, and this one shows why.
This is a blend of Monastrell and Petit Verdot.
Candied berry, menthol, blackberry and a hint
of raisin aromas and flavours are front and centre in
this pretty, fruity wine. Dry, with a robust texture
and mouthfeel. A crowd-pleaser for pasta, pizza or
gourmet sausages. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)
LA MULTA OLD VINE
GARNACHA 2008
DO Calatayud
TASTING NOTE: This wine is crafted by Norrel
Robertson, MW, known in Spain as “El Escocés
Volante,” or “The Flying Scotsman.” This wellstructured
Garnacha boasts a smoky, black-fruit
nose that gives way to mouth-watering aromas
and flavours of intense spice, coffee, plum and
black cherry. The flavours circulate beautifully
on the palate, wrapping up with a fruity, warm
finish. Excellent value to be had here. See for
yourself alongside some ginger chicken or
shepherd’s pie. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)
GRA 2 2008
DOCa Rioja, Graciano
TASTING NOTE: Bright ruby. Pungent aromas of
cassis, raspberry, graphite and potpourri. Fresh and
spicy, with sweet red and dark berry flavors and a
strong mineral underpinning. Finishes with a strong
jolt of candied flowers and lingering spiciness. All
of the wines in this group were raised in stainless
steel and never saw wood. Score: 90 (Josh
Raynolds, International Wine Cellar, July/Aug. 2009)
