Sea Cruise 26 Fjords & Mountains of Norway DAY 1: Your Door to Door Service will collect you and take you to Harwich to board our ship the Black Watch. You will be welcomed aboard by the crew and have plenty of time to settle in before dinner. DURING YOUR CRUISE WE WILL BE VISITING THE FOLLOWING PORTS. BERGEN: The carefully restored Bryggen Wharf is a delight. Its narrow streets climb away from the waterfront, lined by interesting shops, colourful timbered houses and cobbled streets with alleyways and tiny open spaces that beg to be explored. Bergen is framed by seven magnificent hills, the highest of which can be reached by a funicular railway. From the top there are spectacular views down to the harbour side where cafes, bars and restaurants welcome visitors. SONGEFJORD: Beautiful Skjolden sits at the end of the world’s longest fjord, overlooked by the Jutunheimen, northern Europe’s highest mountains and by Jostealsbreen, the largest glacier on mainland Europe. Close to Skjolden is Urnes Stave Church, the world’s oldest of its type, built some time around AD1130. The Feigum Waterfalls are the most spectacular waterfalls in Norway.. SOGNEFJORD: Flam a tiny village on the banks of Aurlandsfjord. This setting is utterly spectacular. A stroll along the waterside, past orchards and hamlets, cottages and farmland explains why this area of Norway is so popular. In recent years the Flam Railway has become a major attraction. Finished in 1944, it climbs up over 20km and almost a thousand metres through magnificent scenery, in and out of mountains, past waterfalls and ravines. We will pause at the beautiful Kjosfossen Waterfall for a photo opportunity. EIDFJORD, HARDANGERFJORD: The approach to Flam, nestled at the innermost reaches of the majestic Sognefjord is truly memorable. Enjoy some of Norway’s wildest and magnificent landscapes. Time here to take the Flam railway which twists and turns its way from the fjord to the mountaintop. STAVANGER: A vibrant and exciting city that wore its title of ‘European Capital of Culture for 2008’ with ease. Stavanger is a charming town, the Old Town Canary & Cape Verde Islands DAY 1: Your Door to Door Service will collect you and take you to Southampton to board the Balmoral where the crew will welcome you on board. There will be plenty of time to settle into your cabin before dinner. DURING YOUR CRUISE WE WILL VISIT THE FOLLOWING PORTS OF CALL. MADEIRA: Funchal, the island’s capital, enjoys an all year temperate climate which results in the most beautifully stunning gardens. Madeira is often referred to as the floating garden of the Atlantic. Funchal boasts many treasures including museums. The Monte Palace Tropical Garden has exotic plants from all over the world, while equally impressive is the Jardin Botanico high in the hills, reached by the magnificent Botanical Garden’s cable car. LAS PALMAS: Santa Cruz was conquered by the King of Castille in the 15th century when Santa Cruz de la Palma became an important trading post between Spain and the Americas. The wealthy past has left a legacy in palaces, colonial buildings and sumptuous merchants’ houses in the Old Quarter, including the town hall which was built in the reign of Phillip II. Around the town are many cafes, bars and restaurants serving local dishes.The Cape Verdes were a Portuguese colony and there are many traces of the colonial heritage in their towns and villages CAPE VERDE: Praia de Santa Maria is the capital and main port on the island of Santiago, the largest of the Cape Verde islands. The main part of the town sits on a small plateau above the natural harbour and the sandy beach which makes the town very pleasant to explore. The 19th Century Presidential Palace is an elegant building, while the Ethnographic Museum tells the story of the islands’ colonial history. Albuquerque Square sits in the centre with open air cafes and bars where you can relax and enjoy the warm climate. CAPE VERDE: Mindelo on Sao Vicente island is fringed by arid mountains and a deep water port that has long been a stopping off point for transatlantic ships. The municipal market is interesting and there are some fine wide esplanades around the harbour. A stroll through the town is a great way to find interesting little cafes and tiny shops. TENERIFE: Santa Cruz is built around boulevards and wide avenues that link elegant squares and parks. San Juan, the best preserved castle in the islands, is also known as the Black Castle after the volcanic blocks used in its construction. Nearby the Maritime Park is a great place for a stroll. Croatia and Montenegro Coastal Cruise A chance to enjoy the contrasting sights of the Coastline of Croatia and Montenegro from the comfort of your Cruise Ship. DAY 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Dubrovnik where we transfer to the MS Belle de l’Adriatique in time for dinner. The ship will remain moored in Dubrovnik overnight. DAY 2: Following breakfast we have a half day guided tour of Dubrovnik – the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. DAY 3: We arrive during breakfast in Mljet, one of the most beautiful islands in the Adriatic, We have included a walking tour on the island and also a guided visit by local boat to the 12th century monastery which rises on an islet in the middle of Lakes Malo, Jezero & Veliko. During lunch onboard the ship we cruise to nearby Korcula the birthplace of Marco Polo & famous for its preserved Gothic and Renaissance buildings. We have included a guided walking tour of the town. Back on board for dinner followed by a traditional sabre dancing evening. DAY 4: We depart early morning and cruise during breakfast, sailing past the islands of Hvar and Brac. We have lunch onboard before arriving at Sibenik for a tour of the town and the Krka Falls. During the visit you will discover the cultural heritage, historic centre with its maze of narrow streets & St James Cathedral built entirely of stone. The Krka flows for over 45 miles from its spectacular source near Knin to the Adriatic. Back on board for dinner and an evening of entertainment with the crew. DAY 5: This morning we arrive at Trogir where we have free time to explore the narrow labyrinth of streets scattered with steps and vaulted passageways. The town has been classed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Back on board for lunch we cruise along the Dalmatian Coast to Split the second largest city in Croatia and the heart of central Dalmatia. We have included a guided tour of the city including visits to Titova Palace, Jupiter’s Temple & St Domnius Cathedral. Dinner onboard followed by an evening at leisure. DAY 6: Cruise early morning to Hvar where we have a guided tour of the town which will include Trg Svetog Stjepana, one of the oldest squares in Dalmatia, St Stephens Cathedral and the 15th century Franciscan monastery. We return to the ship for lunch & cruise to Vis, the most westerly island of the Dalmatian Islands and the least known, with beautiful unspoilt landscapes and a rugged coastline. Free time to explore the town. We return to the ship in time for our Gala Dinner followed by an evening of dancing. Cruise overnight towards Kotor in Montenegro. DAY 7: During the morning we sail into the Kotor estuary where the sea sweeps in for several miles forming a number of calm bays. After lunch on board we have free time to explore the town on foot to see the 9th century St Tryphon Cathedral or the Maritime Museum. Back on board late afternoon for dinner & cruise back to Dubrovnik arriving during the evening with free time after dinner. DAY 8: We leave the Belle de l’Adriatique after breakfast to transfer to the airport for our flight back to the UK and your Door to Door service to home. Sea Cruise 27
