269S. The Regulatory Process (A). Study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ories in economics, political science, and<br />

law to examine <strong>the</strong> structure, conduct, and performance <strong>of</strong> U.S. regulatory agencies.<br />

Emphasis on why decisions are delegated to agencies, <strong>the</strong> degree to which regulators behave<br />

strategically, and <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> regulatory actions on society. Focus on political and<br />

economic roots <strong>of</strong> scientific and technological debates in regulatory policy. Required<br />

research paper on origins and effectiveness <strong>of</strong> a particular regulation. Instructor: Hamilton.<br />

capital, technological innovation, productivity improvements and institutions in explaining<br />

patterns and causes <strong>of</strong> variations in growth and development performance <strong>of</strong> countries.<br />

Effects on growth and development <strong>of</strong> many current policy issues including HIV-AIDs,<br />

financial crises, foreign aid and investment, debt burdens and forgiveness, corruption and<br />

290S. Glasgow Seminar in Public Policy. Analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> British political system and<br />
