For the second year in a row, the Tuesday Ladies’ league decided to replace their annual gift exchange with a donation to charity. As usual, bowlers from all leagues joined in the cause and brought in well over 300 pounds of food & sundry items and $200 in cash. Special thanks to league representative Lorena Horvath who has coordinated this initiative over the past two holiday seasons. bOwlING CeNtre ChrIstMas DesIGNer For the fifth straight year, league bowler Mila Killen designed the beautiful Christmas decorations in the Bowling Centre. Mila out did herself this year with her best design yet! Mila put it together with some help from her husband Dan and daughter Sarah. On behalf of all Club members and their guests, we would like to thank Mila and her family for all their hard work and exceptional talents! IMPOrtaNt NOtICes! • Just a reminder that Club policy states that sports teams are not allowed to reserve bowling lanes at the CWC. • Birthday Parties are allowed to book a maximum of three lanes for 12 people. Contact Palmina at (403) 338-2406 to book food for your birthday parties. • You can book one lane at a time on the “Game Time” system. You must contact the Bowling Centre at (403) 338-2424 to book more than one lane. • The Thursday Afternoon Mixed, Thursday Teen, Thursday Evening Mixed, Friday Mixed, and Saturday Youth leagues go ahead as scheduled during the Teachers' Convention/Family Day long weekend (February 12 th to 16 th ). • The Monday Men’s league is cancelled on Family Day (February 16 th ). hIGh sCOres Tracy Rvachew led the way recently with an amazing 350 game, including seven strikes in a row. Other great games included 269 by Helen Houston, 259 by Merla Dell, 250 by Lois Robostan, 355 by Connor Dickin, 330 by Ken Hilland, and 320 by Ryan Shannon. And how about Vincent Jennings who rolled the new Men’s Club Hi triple of 830! INterClub ChalleNGes Ladies Date: Friday, February 6 th Time: 9:30 am Place: CWC Mixed Date: Saturday, February 21 st Time: 7:30 pm Place: Glencoe Club The Glencoe Club holds a slight lead over the CWC in the Ladies event and the Mixed Challenge is up for grabs. Let Jim know if you are interested in signing up for either of these fun events. FaMIly twOsOMe Date: Sunday, February 8 th Time: 1 pm or 3 pm This is your chance to show the adults in the family how well you can bowl. The Family Twosome is open to any youth bowler under 18 years of age and a family member who is 18 years and older. Each player will bowl three games and will compete for valuable prizes and the Family Twosome title. In fact, all youth participants will receive a trophy for their efforts. If you're not a league bowler and you'd like to participate in this exciting event, contact Jim in the Bowling Office. Entry forms are now available in the Bowling Centre. yOuth teaChers’ CONVeNtION FuNbOwl Date: Friday, February 13 th Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm Cost: $5 per youth CWC members and their guests, aged 6 to 15, are encouraged to enter this fast-paced and fun event. Experience the lights and sounds of Glow Bowling and play some terrific fun games. There will be prizes for everyone and awards for the game winners. All this for only $5 per person! Sign up now on “Game Time”. Beginners are more than welcome!

Deborah is now a member of the Club’s Board of Directors. FaMIly turkey shOOt 2008 Sixty people attended this year’s event with 21 turkeys being won throughout the evening. A big THANK YOU goes out to the Turkey Shoot Committee consisting of Nick Lalla, Lorena & Bob Horvath, Martin & Nadean Meyer, Peggy James, Peggy Calhoun, Janet Gehring, Olive Anderson and Dee Leibel. Thanks also goes out to Ryan Madden who did a fine job entering the names and scores in the computer throughout the evening. Special thanks to Tracy Rvachew who purchased door prizes for the event. Finally, the event wouldn’t have been successful without the friends and family of Don Layton. yOuth bOwlers PerFOrM Kevin Kovacik and Todd Layton recently joined Ian Sefton as bowlers who will represent the CWC at the Calgary Youth 200/250/275 Challenge, to be held at Chinook Bowladrome on April 25 th . Kevin rolled a terrific 349 game while Todd bowled a great score of 283 to qualify. Also, Robyn Starkoski and Ian Sefton represented the Club proudly at the Calgary Youth Bowling Championships in late November. Robyn had her best result yet at the event and Ian missed making the Calgary team by a mere 15 pins. Congratulations to all of these bowlers for their excellent efforts. the eleVeNth FraMe Vincent Jennings recently celebrated his 40 th birthday… upcoming special events include the Youth Wind-up Banquet on March 6 th ... youth leagues end February 26 th & 28 th while most adult leagues start wrapping up starting March 10 th ... very special thanks to David Rvachew and Christa Carter for being Santa’s helpers at our Youth League Christmas party… sorry to hear that former league bowler, Sonja Dick, recently passed away... teen & youth Nick Stushnoff | 403.289.0040 (local 306) | nicks@calgarywinterclub.com uPCOMING teeN aND yOuth eVeNts Register for all events on “Game Time”.
