This event is normally held the week prior to the Juvenile
District Playdowns and is run like a playdown to give
inexperienced teams the opportunity to experience the
playdown format. This year’s event was held January 10 - 11,
with 14 of Southern Alberta’s best juvenile (17 years of age
and under as of Dec 31) teams playing for $1680.00 in cash
prizes.
Six women’s teams signed up for this year’s event and ten
men’s teams. Teams competed in a round robin format spiel
and were paid for every win. In the men’s section teams were
split into two five team pools for the round robin. Instead of
having a bye they played off against the other pools’ bye
team in a skins game. All teams were able to play five games
and gained valuable experience which they can now apply in
playdowns.
