estados unidos: características y desafíos principales
united states: main features and challenges
En general, se considera que
Estados Unidos tiene uno de los
ecosistemas emprendedores
más desarrollados del mundo. Tal
como ha demostrado este Índice,
en comparación con otros países y
regiones, Estados Unidos aparenta
distinguirse en al menos seis
características.
Todo emprendedor necesita dinero,
y Estados Unidos tiene una gran
cantidad de capital emprendedor
disponible para financiar nuevas
empresas. Esto incluye financiamiento
de bancos, capital privado,
capital emprendedor e inversores
ángeles. Más recientemente,
los sitios web de préstamos han
demostrado ser una fuente cada
vez más importante de capital para
las pequeñas y jóvenes empresas.
Dichos sitios, tales como Lending
Club, reúnen capital de diferentes
fuentes y ofrecen préstamos
más económicos que los bancos
tradicionales. El año pasado, el 20
por ciento de los emprendedores,
especialmente las compañías
jóvenes, solicitaron créditos a través
de un sitio web de préstamos. De
todas formas, los bancos siguen
siendo una fuente importante de
crédito para los emprendedores
estadounidenses: las líneas de
crédito, los préstamos y las tarjetas
de crédito son las fuentes más
importantes de financiación.
Un segundo aspecto importante
es la gestión: los emprendedores
deben gestionar las relaciones
con los socios, empleados,
posibles empleados, inversores,
proveedores, clientes y otros.
Las empresas estadounidenses
en general tienen estándares
muy altos de calidad de gestión
y sistemas. Por lo tanto, Estados
Unidos parece tener un amplio
conjunto de habilidades de gestión
disponible para las start-ups
y empresas en crecimiento.
The United States is typically heralded
as having one of the most
well developed entrepreneurial
ecosystems in the world. As this Index
has found, compared to other
countries and regions, the United
States appears to excel on at least
six characteristics.
Entrepreneurs of all types need
money, and the United States has a
deep pool of risk capital available
to finance new businesses. This
includes bank financing, private
equity, venture capital, and angel
investing. Most recently, online
lending websites have proven
to be an increasingly important
source of capital for young and
small companies. These sites, such
as Lending Club, bring together
capital from different sources and
provide loans cheaper and faster
than traditional banks. Last year, 20
percent of entrepreneurs, especially
young firms, applied for credit
through an online lending site.
Still, banks remain an important
source of credit for American entrepreneurs—lines
of credit, loans,
and credit cards are one of the
most important sources of finance.
A second critical aspect is management:
entrepreneurs must manage
relationships with cofounders,
employees, potential employees,
investors, vendors, customers, and
others. American companies generally
have very high standards of
management quality and systems.
Thus, the United States appears to
have a deep pool of management
skill that is available to startups and
growing companies.
In addition to money and management,
entrepreneurs also need
markets. The United States has
proven to possess a broad sense
of what Amar Bhide calls “venturesome
consumption.” Consumers in
the United States provide a ready
