both share the little lantern’s tradition to honor the birth of Virgin Mary, who is surrounded by her parents
Santa Ana and San Joaquín.
This festivity arrived to Concepción de Ataco in 1897 by the Eguizabal sisters. Nevertheless, others sustain
that the festival has more than two hundred years of being celebrated in that same place. According
to its population, devotion began in 1850 in the wake of an earthquake.
It is commemorated on September seventh. Families lighted up the “ocotes” with fire torch and put
them over the frame of the doors of their houses and they would continue with the procession through
out the main streets of each town in honor to the Virgin.
