canchules pedimos...”
ía de los muertos”. The sellers of “hojuelas”
located their selling places near the entrance to
the cemetery on November the second. Families
gather to clean up their tumbs, they adorn them
with natural or hand made flowers. Nevertheless,
in Nahuizalco and Izalco this special day in
celebrated in a different way. In both places,
families build up altars in which they give a honor
to their ancestors. In this altars; decorated with
paper cutting art, all the family reafirms and
recognizes their ties of belonging, since this is the
place where the dead rest. But in this day, there
is no sadness; life is celebrated as it continues
forever.
A peculiar celebration is the one of the “Canchules”
in Nahuizalco, characters who go out to the streets
to ask for fruits and food at the sound of:
“Angels we are,
from Heaven we come,
canchules we ask…”
