Very rare Italian edition of Hero of Alexandria’s most famous book, in which he describes two
of his mechanical inventions: Hero’s fountain and the aeolipile.
The present treatise contains descriptions of a series of equipments having effects on water and air.
The rich illustration consists of a superb frontispiece, 84 woodcuts and finely engraved initials.
« These Ferrara blocks have more decorative elements than the set designed for the Urbino edition
of Federico Commandino’s Latin translation, 1575.” (Harvard, Italian, 230).
A beautiful copy of this rare illustrated work from the 16 th century dedicated to mechanics,
preserved in its contemporary limp vellum.
